This afternoon in the County Commission Chambers surrounded by friends and family newly elected Houston County Commissioner Melinda McClendon was sworn in to office. Commissioner McClendon is the second female to ever hold the office of county commissioner. McClendon said she was ready to get started working on county business working for her district.

After the swearing in of Melinda McClendon by Houston County Probate Judge Luke Cooley, Commissioner McClendon made a few comments. She expressed that she now has over 14,000 new bosses. That is how many registered voters in District 4 Houston County Commission.
Mrs. McClendon said she encourages the people of this county to hold her accountable. Inspire others to get involved before our country is taken over. Commissioner McClendon said she is "only" a county commissioner, but she is a loud county commissioner.
Commissioner McClendon said she stands on the shoulders of many great people. She made reference and honor to Former Dothan Mayor Alfred Saliba who was laid to rest today. For the contributions Alfred Saliba made to the community.
Today was Former Houston County Commissioner Phil Forrester's 78th birthday. The day Commissioner McClendon was sworn in to take the vacancy of Commissoner Forrester that occured in his recent death. Mrs. Phil Forrester attended today's swearing in ceremonies.
Commissioner McClendon challenged the community to "keep me honest". Pull me to the side, talk to me, ask me, keep me on my toes and honest. Keep all office holders accountable.
Commissioner McClendon thanked all who partipated in the election. She thanked each one that took their time to offer themselves for public service. Even Richard Talley who launched a quiet write in campaign for the general election. McClendon's name was the only name on the ballot and Talley attempted a quiet movement to have his name written in. He garned 51 write in votes.
Commissioner McClendon begins with her first Houston County Commission Administrative Meeting at 10 AM Thursday.
Houston County will be served well by Commissioner McClendon.
