OZARK: This morning around 11:45 Ozark Police responded to a report of a man with a gun at 189 Deer Ave. When Police arrived the man is reported to have fired on them and they returned fire. Ozark EMS responded to treat the man. No officers are reported injured only the suspect.

At 12:33 PM Ozark - Dale County 911 dispatched deputies to Deer Avenue and College Street in Ozark of a man with a gun. Reports were a man was holding persons at gunpoint who were attempting to move in or out of the neighborhood.


Reports are the man made threats to the Ozark Police Officer and turned towards the officer with the weapon pointed towards him. The officer then fired his duty weapons after commands for the man to drop his weapon.


The person shot was transported to Dale Medical Center in Ozark where he was pronounced dead.


The victim, reported to be in is 80's, had a medical history of dementia.


Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey and Ozark Police Captain Tim Hicks gave the directives that agents of Alabama Bureau of Investigation be called to the scene to conduct the investigation.


The officer was not injured and no civilians were injured.


The man that was shot was a good man from all reports. Medical conditions were robbing him of his years and mental status and actions.


The shooting by the Ozark Police Officer appears to be a justified shooting incident. All officers hate to placed in the situation and attempt to do all they can to avoid such situations.


Ozark Police Captain Tim Hicks was in charge of the scene. Agents from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation were on the scene. District Attorney Kirke Adams was on the scene and Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson was on the scene and Alabama State Troopers.


The family is in our prayers in the death of their loved one. The officer is on our prayers for being placed in a situation where deadly physical force had to be used.
