DOTHAN: Members of Dothan Police Department command staff were examining the new ( used ) bomb squad vehicle.
Dothan Police Sgt. Brian Smith had the bomb squad vehicle in front of the department this morning showing the new paint job and vehicle. The vehicle, which normally costs around $ 100,000.00 new, was purchased used. I do not know the exact price but it is somewhere around $ 25,000.00. The vehicle will be used by the Police Department when called to and respond to reports of bomb threats or suspicious materials found.
My understanding the vehicle was purchased from seizure funds. The cash taken from defendants, which can be taken even if there is no arrest or conviction.
The Houston County Sheriff Department has some bomb equipment and a remote robot that was issued with Alabama Homeland Security money. That vehicle is maintained by the Sheriff Department however Dothan Police Department has the bomb squad.

A new bomb squad vehicle like Dothan purchased is over $ 300,000.00. They got the vehicle for $ 31,500.00 by purchasing used and shopping around. My estimated price was low!
