UPDATED @ 4:01 PM

When this story started I was in my office listening to the radio. I heard the actual call when it was dispatched of this robbery. Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts was the first person to arrive on the scene of the robbery.

Sheriff Roberts broadcast a good suspect description. Sheriff Roberts broadcast to the officers reports of a "rusty old revolver" was reported to be in the possession of the suspect. Sheriff Roberts called for the K-9 Deputies and K-9 from ACI to respond.

Having heard the original call and posting the original call, what we have just learned is how things can rapidly change in a situation. Remind me of how quickly a law enforcement officers day can change in seconds.

The suspect was spotted shortly after Sheriff Roberts gave a good description. Reports were the suspect was seen behind the Old Wal-Mart. After about 2 1/2 hours of K-9 tracking the suspect was spotted where he came out of the woods and then re-enterd the woods. Jackson County Deputies and K-9 Officers went into the woods after the suspect. He came at the officers in a very aggressive manner which resulted in a Jackson County Sheriff Deputy and a K-9 Officer having to use deadly physical force against the suspect.

The suspect is dead. The suspect has no identification and is a hispanic male.

Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts has confirmed the suspect is dead. Sheriff Roberts said FDLE is conducting the investigation because it is an officer invovled shooting death.

When tracking a suspect, officers always use caution. In Holmes County Florida a K-9 Officer lost his life while tracking a murder suspect. The officer was ambushed by the suspect.

A reminder of how quick a situation changes. When I heard the call no idea it would end this way. That is always in a law enforcement officers mind - use caution.

Reports of Robbery

The call was a lady went throughthe drive thru of CVS to pick up some medication. After she left the drive thru she pulled over in the parking lot of CVS. The hispanic male suspect approached her and demanded money at gunpoint. When she had no money he grabbed her cell phone and ran. The victim was able to provide Sheriff Roberts a good description of the suspect.

The perimter was covered well. Sheriff Roberts said with jackson County Schools being closed today the School Resource Deputies were out in the field. This allowed rapid deployment of additional officers and a good perimter established.
