DOTHAN:  Multiple Dothan Fire units responded to a report of a structure fire at Pepi Foods. The first unit on scene advised nothing visible. Battalion 2 has command. Dothan Police responded along with an ambulance. The fire was out when first unit arrived...

This was a pizza oven that was on fire and not an actual structure fire.

When a call comes into a 911 Center the 911 Operator rolls the necessary emergency equipment to handle the worse case scenario.

In the case of a structure fire, most especially a large commercial building or large residential building, normally three fire engines roll, the ladder fire engine, the Batallion Chief, the fire rehab truck that fills air bottles, a ambulance and two police cars.

Why so many? Well if a real fire you want the equipment rolling and ready. The equipment can always be cancelled and turned around.

And that is what is done. When the first unit arrives they report, " this is a large single story commercial structure, people appear to be evacuated, no sign of smoke or flames ". From that, the additional units arriving take sides of the structure, "exterior", "interior", side A, B, C or D of the structure. Fire Engines will stand by the fire plug ready to connect should the scene commander give the go ahead.

But when the primary fire unit determines, "no fire", all units return to service, normally with the exception of the first engine until the paperwork is completed. You know, no job is ever completed until the paperwork is done!!!

In the case of this fire, a pizza oven and no actual structure fire.
