UPDATED @ 5:08 With Another Picture: DEVELOPING: Chase In Covington County Has Resulted In One Being Life Flighted To Montgomery

COVINGTON COUNTY:  Developing information - As we understand a traffic stop was initiated in Crenshaw County around Brantley. The chase went from Crenshaw County into Covington County and continued towards Opp.

Reports are Opp Police deployed spike strips. As the speeding vehicle came towards the Opp Police at the spike strips a shot was fired into the tires reported to have been fired by officers of Opp Police Department. The shot reported to be by Opp Police struck the suspect.

The suspect is reported to have come to a "controlled stop" following the shooting. The suspect was life flighted from the scene in Opp to a Montgomery Hospital.

The traffic stop was initiated by an Alabama State Trooper in Brantley for speeding. The shooting occured NOT BY AN ALABAMA STATE TROOPER but by a Opp Police Department Officer. However, because the shooting occured by Opp Police, the normal policy is the shooting will be investigated by agents from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. My understanding is agents from Alabama Bureau of Investigation re currently on the scene.

The scene location is at the by pass in Opp and Alabama Highway 331.

 UPDATED @ 5:08: We have uploaded some pictures. The southbound lane of the Bypass is still closed. We should get a release from Kevin Cook soon. The driver possibly has multiple charges. The driver was also possibly driving under the influence.
