DOTHAN:   This morning retired Dothan Police Sgt. Brain Brackin passed this life and entered into the gates of heaven about 3:30 AM at the University Hospital in Birmingham.

Brackins death initiated from complications that resulted from a single motor vehicle accident in Geneva County several weeks ago. From the accident Brian suffered a broken back. Already suffering from heart issues, complications from his injuries and medical issues caused his death.

Brian has been retired from Dothan Police Department for a number of years. On his retirement Brian was assigned to Juvenile Division  After his retirement he worked with Azar’s Uniforms continuing around law enforcement in selling law enforcement equipment to officers.

The photos are of Brian and classmates in a reunion at Hunt’s last year. I caught Brian and his classmates celebrating together their years in school, or better yet their years out of school, dining at Hunt’s. Brian was born and raised in Dothan and graduated from Dothan High School.

Brian was a friend to all who knew him. He was a police officer that worked to help people rather than an officer that looked for reasons to arrest.

Retired Dothan Police Sgt. Joe Phillips and another lady ( I do not know her name ) were special friends of Brian’s. Both Joe and the lady I do not know her name have been the definition of true friends and spent many weeks with Brian while in the hospital in Dothan and in Birmingham. They have been by his side during the many weeks he fought for his life. Both, true definitions of friends.

Friends. In life there are some you can count on and many you can not count on.

Earlier in the article I mentioned retired Dothan Police Sgt. Joe Phillips as a true friend to Brian and there was a lady who I did not know her name.

Her name is Lisa Kelley. She and her husband Ricky were both in Birmingham with Brian when he passed away.

Both Lisa and Joe have taken turns staying with Brian during his stay in Dothan at Flowers Hospital and when transferred to Birmingham. They made many trips rotating out and remaining with Brian during his hospital stay.

When you look for true examples of friends, Joe and Lisa are the definition.

The photograph of Brian and the little girl is Maybrie. She is the granddaughter to Lisa. She was the pride of Brian's eye.

As I referred to Brian as "Brian". Most everyone, he is not known as "Brian". He is known as "BB". Ever since I have known him since the 70's, he has ben known as "BB".

He will be missed. He served Dothan well as a police officer.
