NOTE: The suspect injured was not transported to SAMC in Dothan. The patient is not at SAMC.
Dothan Police Department and Houston County Sheriff's Department are in a chase with shots fired on the north part of Dothan in the Montgomery Highway area. The Ambulance just left the scene transporting someone we will update on this when we receive further information.

Montgomery Highway at Montezuma is blocked due to this incident. Police are re-routing traffic.

At this time, unofficially, we understand law enforcement had a chase with a suspect that started on or near Linden Street. The chase ended up at Montgomery Highway at Greentree Street. The suspect vehicle was in the parking lot of the shopping center on the southside of Montgomery Highway. Law Enforcement was reported to have been out of their patrol vehicle and the suspect is reported to have been ordered to stop.
Witnesses on the scene reported the suspect vehicle backed into a parked gray vehicle and then proceeded forward towards the officer. At that time witnesses report the officer fired his weapon. Reports are the officer struck the suspect.
The suspect vehicle then traveled north crossing Montgomery Highway and going into the sign shop building on the northside of Montgomery Highway.
Multiple Law Enforcement Officers are on the scene to include officers with Dothan Police, Chief Benton and Major Parrish, Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Alabama State Troopers and agents from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
A person is reported to have been transported to a medical facility.
At this time Montgomery Highway, both north and south lanes are closed.;

Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton and Dothan Police Sgt. David gave a brief press conference on the scene.
Chief Benton said there was a brief pursuit which ended at 1528 Montgomery Highway. At that location the suspect vehicle rammed a parked car with a civilian inside the vehicle.
Shots were fired and the suspect vehicle then proceeded across the road to 1558 Montgomery Highway and into the building Sign Designs. Chief Benton said the suspect was injured by gunfire.
Chief Benton and Sgt. David said the case is unfolding as they were giving press conference.
The chase was in reference to possible felony warrants on the suspect.
There was one person injured which was a worker with Signs By Designs. Chief Benton was not sure on the condition of that perso. Dothan Fire Department was making sure the building was safe before police could go inside to investigate.
The crash into the parked vehicle with the civilian occured first. The shooting occured second. Then the suspect vehicle crossed Montgomery Highway and crashed into Signs By Designs.
It is beleived the suspect attempted to run over the police officer after striking the parked vehicle with the civilian inside.
Alabama Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation because the shooting is a officer involved shooting.

Reports are the suspect is dead. The investigation is continuing.

Dothan Police have called a press conference for 10 AM on Friday.
Additional officers have been called to the scene as the investigation continues.

The suspect vehicle has been removed from Signs By Designs.

The suspect has not been officially identified. However through multiple sources we have learned the name of the subject. The suspect is deceased.
The suspect is a 22 year old black male. He has an extensive criminal history. Some of the following cases we are identifying were dismissed and some the subject was found guilty of.

Houston County Circuit Court Records show the subject was sentenced to 3 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections on December 2, 2010.
We are not releasing the name of the subject until sources do release the name officially.
