DOTHAN:   Dothan 911 has dispatched a structure fire at 4009 Wiregrass Drive, smoke and flames visible.

Multiple Dothan Fire units are on the scene. Matt Boster is responding and will update.

The fire call was dispatched at 5:53 AM. As responding to the scene Matt reported smoke was visible from Highway 231 South. The roof was fully engulfed on the arrival of fire units to the scene.

Matt has reported the house was a total loss. No one was injured. The house belongs to Jerry and Susan Richards. Jerry is retired from the City of Dothan and Susan is employed with the CIty of Dothan Personnel Department.

UPDATED AT 7:30 AM

Despite the best efforts of fire fighters the home was completed destroyed. When Engine 4 arrived they reported heavy smoke coming from the roof of the home.  Fire fighters attempted to make entry into the home but shortly after doing so they had to back out due to the fire flashing. (A fire flashes when everything inside reached its ignition point all at the same time and ignites).

The home owners are reported to be out of town, the cause of the fire is under investigation the Dothan Fire Marshal’s Office. It’s not clear what started the fire or how long it had been burning before some noticed it and called the fire department.
