HEADLAND:   We have received multiple reports of a shooting on Holland Street in Headland.  I am rolling and more details to follow.

On the scene on Hollan Street in Headland. At this time Headland Police, Henry County Sheriff, Henry County - Abbeville Task Force and Agents of Alabama Bureau of Investigation.


Reports are Headland Rescue responded to a medical emergency on Hollan Street. When the medics arrived the patient, reported to suffer from some mental issues, the patient is reported to have attacked the medics. The medics called police.


According to reports, when the first Headland Police Officer arrived the patient ran to the police car jerking to door open and began attacking the officer while he was in the patrol car. The officer was able to fire a shot and the patient ran around the house.


A second Headland officer arrived. Reports are the patient ran towards that officer as soon as he arrived. The patient was ordered to stop and he kept towards the officer and that is when the police officer had to shoot the patient.


The patient has been transported to SAMC by Headland Rescue. He is reported to be in surgery at this time.


Multiple law enforcement officers are on the scene. Because this is an officer involved shooting agents from Alabama Bureau of Investigation are on the scene.


NOTE:   This shooting has NOTHING to do with the shooting death which occurred yesterday in Henry County.


Headland Police Chief Mark Jones and Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox are on the scene.

The first officer that arrived on the scene was transported to SAMC with injuries. He was literally dragged from the police car by the patient.


The second officer, a Headland Investigator, happened to be out and working on the murder case and heard the call. He went to the call. That officer was also been transported to SAMC.


Both officers are reported to be okay but are really shook up.


The Alabama Bureaul of Investigation Forensic Investigator has also arrived on the scene.


The Headland Mayor is also on the scene making sure all officers and medics are okay.

The patient has attacked two women prior to the medics and police arriving on the scene.
