WASHINGTON COUNTY FL:    On Saturday Alabama State Trooper Lee Marcel Phillips stopped a vehicle in Geneva County. As Trooper Phillips encountered the vehicle the violators shot Trooper Phillips.


Trooper Phillips, now wounded with a gunshot to the shoulder, returned fire. Trooper Phillips was able to hold off one gunman, capture one gunman, and radio for help.


A all out manhunt took place and the second suspect was taken into custody.


As the investigation unfolded authorities have found the owner of the vehicle was dead in Washington County Florida.


Washington County Sheriff Department is conducting the investigation into the death of the owner of the vehicle. Foul play is suspected.


At 4:00 PM CST we have a call into the Washington County Florida Sheriff Department for information concerning the death.


Alabama Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation into the actions in Geneva County Alabama. Washington County Sheriff Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement ( FDLE ) is conducting an investigation into the Washington County death.


The two suspects who opened fire on Trooper Phillips are in custody of Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward.

About 1:30 AM Agents from he Alabama Bureau of Investigation contacted Washington County Florida Sheriff's Office in Chipley Florida to attempt to contact the registered owner of the vehicle the alleged shooter of the Alabama State Trooper were driving.


Washington a County Deputies found the owner died behind his farmhouse in Washington County Florida.


Deputies found 68 year old James W. Shores dead.


The exact cause of death has not been released. The death is being worked as a homicide.
