HOUSTON COUNTY:  12:14 AM  Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched emergency units to a motor vehicle accident, West Saunders Road and Highway 203 South. Reports were a vehicle overturned with ejection.

Responding to the scene was Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Alabama Department of Law Enforcement - Trooper Division, Rehobeth Fire and Rehobeth Rescue.

When emergency units arrived on the scene they mutual aid requested Dothan Fire Department respond. Dothan Police also responded.

One person was transported emergency, trauma alert. One person was confirmed dead on the scene.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd has been dispatched to respond to the scene.

As reported one person was transported to the hospital. The other was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide Troopers are on the scene and handling the investigation into the possible cause of the wreck.

We are withholding the scene pictures pending the notification of next of kin. Right now it appears the vehicle ran off the road and struck a culvert and then a tree before coming to rest on it's wheels. Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle and thrown several feet from the vehicle.

We expect a press release sometime this morning identifying the two victims.

The deceased has been identified as 41 year old Lana Kirkland of Dothan.

DOTHAN POST – A single-vehicle crash at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, claimed the life of a Dothan woman. Lana Kirkland, 41, was killed when the 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage she was occupying left the road and struck a tree. Kirkland, who was not using a seat belt, was ejected and later pronounced dead. Another occupant was ejected and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The crash occurred on West Saunders Road, just west of Sparrow Court. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
