UPDATED @ 11:23 AM
A suspect was apprehended just before 11:30 a.m. on Thursday on the Starkville campus of Mississippi State University after the school's student association reported an active shooter situation. During the incident, the organization advised students to "please get to a safe location and do not move."
The suspect has not been identified and the motive is not known. No one was injured in the incident, as the suspect apparently did not fire any shots.
The suspect was first seen at Carpenter Hall, which houses the school's mechanical engineering department. The suspect was later seen at Lee Hall, a building that houses student affairs administrative offices, telecommunications offices, a copying center and classrooms. "Lee Hall and Carpenter are on the central green space of the campus, about one building is in between them," a spokesman for the university said in a phone interview, adding it was relatively easy to move between the two halls.
