UPDATED at 12:47 PM: Man Sought for making threats Against Cottonwood Government Officials

COTTONWOOD: Police and Houston County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who is believed to made threats against government officials and others in Cottonwood. The threats are believed to have been made against officer, the town’s mayor, and others. It’s not immediately known how the threats were conveyed.
The credibility of the threats is not known at this time and the suspect is believed to be suffering from mental issues. The man is 54 years old and maybe driving a Ford Econoline van. The suspect is Rodney Lavoy Hughes and is well known to law enforcement officers.
Cottonwood City Hall has been placed on lock down according to law enforcement officers at the scene. Cottonwood High School has been placed on soft lock down only as a precautionary measure. Students are not in danger and activities and classes are operating on a normal schedule. No threats were made toward the students, this is just a precaution due to the proximity of the school from the Town Hall.
Officers are conducted an intensive manhunt for the man who is believed to have made the threats. Sheriff Valinza and his staff are assiting Cottonwood Police with the search for Mr. Hughes.

The suspect Rodney Hughes has been taken into custody in Columbia.
