UPDATED AT 4:07 pm
Earlier today Ashford Police and Alabama State Troopers located the two missing juveniles and they were turned over safely to their parents.
UPDATED at 3:30 Press Release:
On October 5, 2012 at approximately 11:45 AM, the Ashford Police Department received information that two juveniles had left the campus of a local school. Shortly thereafter, the Ashford Police Department was contacted by the parents of one of the juveniles, that provided information that this was perhaps a planned runaway by the two.
Due to the heavily wooded area, assistance was requested from the Houston County Sheriff's Department tracking dog unit. With the assistance of the Houston County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit, the search continued well into the late evening hours. Due to lack of lighting and the terrain, the ground search was suspended. However, a perimeter was kept as to the last known location of the juveniles. Area citizens were alerted to be on the lookout for the two juveniles.
Just past daylight this morning, the ground search was reorganized when a local citizen notified the Ashford Police Department that the juveniles had been spotted. With this information, the perimeter was adjusted and the Alabama State Troopers joined in the ground search. A short time thereafter, the missing juveniles were located after a search of approximately 22 hours in a heavily wooded and swampy area. The juveniles were found to be in good condition, other than scrapes, dehydration and insect bites. The juveniles were placed back in the custody of their parents
The Ashford Police Department would like to thank the Houston County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit, the Ashford Volunteer Fire Department, Alabama State Troopers and area citizens for their assistance in the search and for the swift, safe return of these children to their families.
