GENEVA COUNTY: Alabama State Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on Geneva county Road 57.  The suspects are reported to have fired shots at the officer and the offier returned fire. One suspect was taken into custody when Geneva County Deputy arrived but another suspect is reported to be on foot. The condition of the officer is not known. Other Deputies and Troopers are arriving and search for the suspect. Law Enforcement from around the area including Houston County Sheriff's Office is sending Deputies. Road blocks are being set up to catch the remaining suspect.


Dale County Sheriff's Air Support and SRT from Houston, Dale, and Henry are reponding along with both Houston County Blood Hounds to start tracking the other suspects.

Unconfirmed reports are the trooper did receive a gun shot wound to the shoulder, but the injury does not appear to be life threatening. As for the suspects; we are now getting reports that their were three people in the vehicle, one in custody and two running on foot. One may have been wounded. We will update as more information comes available.

Reports that another suspect has been taken into custody at this time which leaves one left to catch. Troopers from as far away as Montgomery are on the scene.

We have learned that the trooper stated he only saw two suspects and both are in custody. The search has been called at this time. We have also learned that Senator Harrie Ann Smith was at the Hospital and stopped to check on the wounded trooper.Memebers of the Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff's Office are at the hospital with members of the Alabama State Troopers.


Again their were only TWO suspects and both are in custody at this time....

Dothan Police sent several units to the scene with K-9 Officers. The area was surrounded.


Coffee County Sheriff Deputies and Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton responded to the scene.


Dothan Police Department had officers on the scene. One suspect was transported to SAMC and one to Flowers. Both suspects were shot.


UNCONFIRMED sources have stated that the Trooper clocked the suspect vehicle speeding. The suspect ran and on the back roads in Geneva County.


UNCONFIRMED sources have stated the suspects turned behind a house. As the Trooper approached the suspects fired on the Trooper and struck the Trooper in the shoulder. The Trooper sped past the suspect and got into position and returned fire.


The Trooper's vehicle and suspect vehicle were both shot up. A witness said they heard multiple gunshots.


Both suspects were shot.


One suspect was apprehended right after the shooting. The second suspect came out on Highway 167 and UNCONFIRMED sources state agents from Alabama Game and Fish took the second suspect into custody.


Alabama Senator Harri Anne Smith went by the hospital with the Trooper's family. Senator Smith and Governor Bentley's staff were in communications with each other about the activity and needs.


Alabama State Trooper PIO Kevin Cook was at drill  in Bay County Florida. Trooper Cook responded from the drill back to his home to get his Trooper car and to the scene.

We understand the suspects arrested for shooting the trooper were identified as Dillion Scott Rafsky and Zackery Woods. We also have learned the trooper even after being shot was able to return fire and apprehend one of the suspects.

Both suspects have been released from the hospital. Both suspects are now in the custody of Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward.
