UPDATED: Man arrested for impersonating officer during Dothan traffic stop

WDHN's Ken Curtis is reporting a man was arrested last night after he allegedly pulled a woman over while posing as a cop. It happened in a busy part of Dothan.

On April 7th, 2015 the Dothan Police Department arrested Michael Smith following a recent investigation in which it was reported that he made contact with an individual and identified himself as a law enforcement officer.
Investigators say on April 6th 2015, Smith was occupying a white Dodge Charger when he attempted to stop the victim by using hand gestures to get their attention. The victim and Smith pulled into a convenience store parking-lot where Smith exited his vehicle and identified himself as a police officer. When the victim questioned him about his claim of being an officer, Smith returned to his vehicle and left.
On April 7th 2015, officers identified Smith as the subject who stopped the victim. He was taken into custody a short period later and charged with Impersonating a Police Officer.
• Michael Christopher Smith, white male, 47 years of age, of Birmingham, Alabama was arrested and charged with Impersonating a Police Officer. A bond has been set at $50,000.00.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
