UPDATED Funeral Arrangements:   The body is at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening at Ward Wilson Funeral Home from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Funeral Services will be Thursday at Grandview Bapist Church at 2 PM.

DOTHAN:     About 1 AM Ray Sizemore passed away from this life in eternity with the Heavenly Father.

Ray fought the battle of lung cancer for several months. On Sunday he took a turn for worse.

Dothan – Houston County has lost a icon. Someone who lifted helping hands to individuals and to this community. No telling how many people came by Ray’s Restaurant and ate free because they were down on their luck.

Ray Sizemore helped feed for events to help promote Dothan and recreation facilities. One of his favorite Ray could not attend recently – special kids day at National Peanut Festival. Ray’s son, Mike, and others took Ray’s cooker and carried on Ray’s tradition.

More than that, Ray was a loving husband to his wife Kitty. Some 17 years ago Miss Kitty passed this life with a battle of cancer.  Ray and Kitty were partners and friends in life – family, recreation and business, not just husband and wife.

Ray has three great kids. He loved them and was active in each of their lives as they grew up and continued into adulthood. He loved all of his grandkids…and each loved him. They would stop in the  restaurant just to tell “pops”  hello.

Ray has another family. The restaurant family. Every day for decades, people from all walks of life, would come to Ray’s Restaurant.  But one faithful group, the table of knowledge – also called other things at times. A group that loved Ray, always joking and cutting up.

Ray Sizemore has had to have heard every kind of bull known to man kind coming from the coffee drinkers.

The staff of Ray’s Restaurant, they have done great in continuing through Ray’s time of illness. Each carrying additional loads. Mrs. Regan being there to help look after the restaurant and help the family look after Ray.

This community has lost a icon. Many of us from the House of Knowledge have lost a friend.

Mike – Pam – Kenny - Sharon - Allan…to all of the grandkids and family…we all love you. The community is lifting you up in prayers

I to have very fond memories of Mr. Ray and the family. I once worked for Ray for a few years. Ray treated me with nothing but kindness and love. I had a lot of fun working there. I also learned alot and grew up alot. Ray and I remained friends after I left to go work in Ashford, I went by to see him when I could and some of the customers from Ray's came to see me. I seen several times Ray would give a plate to someone and told them their money was no good. He was a good man and a loveing father and granpa. I send my deepest thoughts and prayers to the family. Ray will be missed very much. With much love Denise

I have fond memories of Mr.Ray. He was so gracious when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer to put a jar in his resturant to help us with traveling expenses. Haley-Bugg Suggs absolutely adored him as he did her. He will be missed but I know as my Haley passed a month before him was waitng on him with open arms and with her winning smile asking hm shortly for some peach cobbler. Thoughts and prayers are with the Sizemore family at this time.

Ray will be greatly missed. I moved away from Dothan more than 20 years ago but still go to Ray's Restaurant everytime I come home. Ray would greet me, making some wise crack comment, as if I had never left. That really made me feel right at home. I spend many hours around the table of knowledge listening to Ray and the other knowing people spout off their ideas about how to solve all the problems of the world. I will certainly miss Ray and his sense of humor along with that smile.Ray, thanks for the many years of service.John Radney

Mr. Ray will be greatly missed by his Dothan Family. Mr. Ray helped so many people in our area during "hard" times. He truly loved people and cooking. It's a blessing when a friend or loved one is called home to be with our Lord, and people can say "he was a good man with a loving heart". We're told to love one another, and Ray did so daily. God bless you Ray and thank you for all that you've done. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time and in the days to come.

Mr.Ray you will be missed so much. I will always remember how you made sure my mom got her "ray's Dressing" Folks my mom had cancer and did battle for along time. Some days it was hard to find her something to eat that she would even take. My sister ,who was moms full time care giver,or I went to ray's each week and each week our money was no good there. It was always ready and packed. How's your mom? what can I do? Tell her I put her a little extra for later in her bag, He would say. To this day that kindness is shared with our family our friends. He truly was a blessing from the Lord to us. My prayers are with his family, Thank you for sharing him with us for all these years. He was and will always be one of Dothans most loved men and a true Icon and Legend. The Broyles family

Most every town has a "Ray Sizemore" who touches lives in life and leaves a huge void when they pass. I wasn't one of the regulars at Ray's, but I was always made to feel that I was his best customer. To say he had the "gift" would be an understatement. Prayers of comfort to his family and his "Ray's" extended family. There is a new table of knowledge being prepared in Heaven
