PNJ.COM: An arrest has been made in the Escambia High school fire last night. According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to assist firefighters at Escambia High School. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, Daniel Quattlebaum, 21, called 911 and told dispatchers that he broke into the high school and set the fire. Deputies located Quattlebaum and brought him back to the school where he was interviewed by Sheriff’s deputies and the state Fire Marshal. During the interview, Quattlebaum admitted to deputies that he was on drugs earlier in the evening and went to the school. When at the school he used a rock to break a window and gain access. Once inside he damaged several rooms and then set fire to one of the school’s computer rooms, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Melissa Aiken Rawson. Officers also reviewed the security video and confirmed that Quattlebaum was the individual inside the school when the fire started, Rawson said. Quattlebaum, who lives on Jackson Street in Pensacola, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of criminal mischief, arson and burglary. He has a bond of $112,500. Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said the fire that left two floors and four classrooms damaged. Jerry Boone, a school board member who was at the building with his son this morning, said surveillance cameras also caught two other individuals in the building. "Its disappointing that someone would be so destructive," said Thomas. Thomas said the district would be doing a full assessment of the damage tomorrow. Pictures from www.northescambia.com
