ARITON:     Ozark - Dale County 911 dispatched Ariton Fire, Ariton Rescue, Dale County Sheriff Department and Alabama Department of Law Enforcement - Trooper Division to a motor vehicle accident verses a pedestrian in Ariton.

When EMS arrived they reported the accident was a fatality.

Reports from citizens on the scene the lady, who is very short, crosses the street every morning. The garbage truck had just made a right turn according to the citizens and the lady stepped into road. The garbage truck struck her and she died.

The sun was a contributing factor for the garbage truck because it was blinding in the faces of the persons traveling that direction.

Dale County Coroner Woody Hilboldt was on the scene. Dale County Sheriff Chief Deputy Mason Bynum was on the scene.

The ALEA Troopers are in charge of the investigation.

The victim was 80 years old and unofficial report are the elderly man fell into the moving truck and was killed..

The victim is a FEMALE and not a male. I was told on the scene by bystanders it was a 80 year old female. Tonight received a Facebook message the age was 86.

On the scene I was aware it was a female and not a male. There was a misunderstanding between me and one typing.

Just FYI I was traveling to Talladega and was crossing the bridge at Midland City when the call was dispatched. So I stopped by the scene but was on a deadline to be in Talladega.
