I’d like to make known that my intention is to run for re-election for the office of Sheriff of Barbour County. I would like to thank the people of Barbour County for the support and confidence you’ve shown in me during my first term as Sheriff. If re-elected, I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability and maintain our very pro-active effort to rid Barbour County of illegal drugs and other crimes and as always, be fair and professional in doing so. During my three years as Sheriff we’ve made more than 300 self-initiated drug arrests and reduced the overall crime-rate in the county by on a very slim and minimal budget. As you’re well aware, Barbour County is a very large county and with only 12 Deputies I’ve been able to provide 24-hour 7-day coverage for our citizens and a full-time investigator. I personally enjoy patrolling our county and apprehending bad guys. Just recently I managed to arrest a person with 2,000 Ecstasy pills
which lead to the dismantling of one of the largest Ecstasy rings operating in the Southeast United States. I was much honored when I won a national award for that case. I always believed that a leader will lead from the front and not push from the back. I have saved our taxpayers thousands of dollars by securing a number of state and federal grants in addition to the thousands in seized drug money we have utilized to purchase much needed equipment and aid in the basic function of my office. I am currently in the process of forming a citizens advisory committee to assist me in determining the needs and issues of our citizens in each part of the county. The Barbour County Sheriff's Office has made many changes in the past years. I know, because I've worked here for the past 14 years. If re-elected, I will continue my effort to make the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office one of the most efficient and professional agencies in Alabama while at the same
time saving our tax dollars and enforcing the law. I want to continue to serve you as your Sheriff and sincerely appreciate your support and confidence.
Thank You,
Sheriff LeRoy Upshaw
