HOUSTON COUNTY:   Members of the Houston County Volunteer Firefighters celebrated Christmas together tonight.

Each year the volunteer Fire Chiefs and guests enjoy a time together to eat Shelby Womack’s shrimp-corn-susage and potatoes. A lip smakcing ood time and some great homemade deserts.

The Houston County Volunteer Fire Chiefs meet each month to discuss matters of importance to each department and the people they serve. The departments train together for the safety of the fireman and the victims of a motor vehicle accident, structure fire or medical emerrgency.

Houston County and the surronding counties are blessed with men and women which volunteer their time and risk their lives to save others. All over this county, many spend their own time and money in order for our community to be safe.

THANKS for all you do.

Tonight the Houston County Volunteer Fire Association presented a plaque to Mr. Shelby Womack. A retired Dothan Fire Marshall and retired Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director, Womack worked with the fire departments across the county to make them better. Womack responded to many of their major calls in order to provide them assistance and resources to better perform their job. Each year since his retirement, except for one due to the illness of his dear wife Judy, Womack has cooked for the association Christmas Party. The plaque was a small token of their appreciation.

The Association also recognized a Houston County Volunteer Fireman of the year. From Rehobeth Volunteer Fire, the association presented a plaque of appreciation to Travis Tice of the Rehobeth Volunteer Fire Department. For his dedication to the people of his community, the Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments said THANKS for all he does. Congratulations for Houston County Volunteer Fireman of the Year.
