HOUSTON COUNTY: On Sunday evening a major structure fire. Many private citizens who volunteer their time and energies left their homes to fight the fire.
A issue the fireman fought was communications.
Since the Alabama Forrestry Department changed the radio tower at Memphis Fire Tower the fireman in the southend of Houston County have fought communications.
The Rehobeth Volunteer Fire, Madrid Volunteer Fire, Southern Junction Volunteer Fire have daily issues with their radios not working. You can not talk or hear on the radios. And you should with a tower on Hodgesville Road at Eddins Road.
The radio system is messed up. The towers are owned by the Alabama Forrestry. And they could really care less.
The Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management has not got on the issue and solved it. The Dothan - Houston County E-911 has not got on the issue and solved it. ( I intend to bring it up in the next meeting.) But over $ 450,00000 of the 911 money was spent on the Dothan Fire ring down system.
And Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver, well he is to busy sucking up to the political heavy weights like Watson in giving a $ 38,000.00 no bid contract. Culver enjoys Dothan Fire and his safety does not depend on the fine men and women who volunteer time and lives to help others.
So in other words, the volunteers have inadequate communications. A volunteer could lose his life because he can not talk when in an emergency situation.
Someone needs to step up to the plate. So far, the power leaders are just ignoring it. Or as usual, they will take years to discuss and never repair it.
