HOUSTON COUNTY: Tonight the men and women of Houston County which donate their time, money and energy to serve others met together for the annual Christmas Dinner.
A custom is Shelby Womack cooking the meal which is a shrimp boil.
At the Christmas party each year, the Fire Chief’s of the 17 Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments select a fireman from their department which has shown the extra efforts in fighting fires. The person who goes above and beyond and who shows that leadership on fire scenes.
The 2014 Houston County Volunteer Fireman is Matt Boster. Matt is a volunteer fireman with Southern Junction Volunteer Fire Department.
Matt does extra details at the fire station. There is more to do being a fireman then just fighting the fires. The trucks and equipment has to be ready to roll with water, fire hoses, equipment and whatever resources are needed for whatever emergency is required. Matt is one of those who works to stay ready for deployment.
Matt also responds as a volunteer with Southern Junction to fire and emergency calls when dispatched. One evening a major fire on Highway 231 South at the flea market in Madrid, Matt Boster was the on scene commander of the fire. He managed the fire operation and the multiple departments that responded. Matt kept the scene orderly, safe and maintained a management system of the operation.
Matt also assists multiple departments across Houston County. As a reporter for Rickey Stokes News, Matt jumps in on the scenes and helps other departments. I have always told Matt, take 5 seconds snap a picture, throw the camera down and jump in and help the departments with the emergency if they need additional assistance. During the day, it is difficult for volunteers to be able to respond. From this news web site, Matt’s instructions are, the emergency situation first, news last.
With that in mind, Matt helps volunteer agencies all across Houston County when he responds as a news person.
Matt Boster is one of those persons who believes in saving lives and property. He is dedicated to that purpose and does so for free.
Congratulations to Matt Boster for being selected as the 2014 Volunteer Fireman of the year for Houston County.
From www.rickeystokesnews.com, congratulations to Matt on your achievement and what you do for the web site in keeping it running.
