Dothan, Ala. – Wallace Community College will host the Second Annual Wallace Community College Science Decathlon on February 20, 2015. This free event allows local schools to showcase their students’ talents with both hands-on events and written tests. Students in grades 6-12 will compete in events that are designed to give students hands-on experience in Life Science, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Forensics Science. The event is designed to create a passion for learning science concepts.
Each school may register one team, with up to fifteen members, in each of the two divisions. The competition is designed for grades 6-9 (Division I) and grades 10-12 (Division II). Teams in each division will send two team members to each of the nine academic events and four team members to the quiz bowl portion of the event.
Participating schools will be competing for various awards and trophies as well as scholarship opportunities. Trophies will be given for first through third place as well as the quiz bowl winner. Awards will be given to schools with the top score in life science, earth science, chemistry, physical science and forensics science.
