Walton County School Bus Crash

A 2003 International Walton County School Bus and a 2000 Infiniti SUV were southbound on W Hewett Road, South of the intersection with Lauren Lane. The Walton County School bus was ahead of the Infiniti SUV.

The School Bus, loaded with 25 students, stopped in the roadway. The Infiniti stopped behind the bus. The driver of the school bus realized he had passed his scheduled stop. The driver of the bus failed to oberve the Infiniti and allowed the bus to proceed backward. The rear of the bus struck the front of the SUV.

Both vehicles were moved from the roadway prior to this investigator’s arrival. The SUV left 3 1/2 feet of skid marks as the bus propelled the vehicle backward. There were 25 students on board the bus at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported at the time of the crash. The driver of the school bus was cited for improper backing. The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
