NEWS RELEASE

WCSO deputy charged with Child Abuse

For Immediate Release

March 19, 2013

On March 18, 2013, deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a call of a possible domestic violence incident that had already occurred on Roberts Drive, DeFuniak Springs.  The victim, a minor, stated Christopher Strawn, a deputy with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, battered him earlier in the morning while getting ready for high school.

Deputies on scene noticed abrasions to the neck area of the victim.  Statements gathered from those at the residence said the two got into an argument in the car.  The victim ran from the vehicle and locked Strawn out of his own home.  Strawn was able to gain entry and went to the victim’s room.  The argument turned from verbal to physical when Strawn held down the victim in an attempt to calm the minor down.  Those on scene also said the minor has been displaying behavioral problems for some time.

According to Sheriff Adkinson, Strawn is cooperating fully, understanding that dealing with a juvenile, even one who almost an adult and acting aggressively, is a situation where the system is set to make sure there are no questions about what happened.

Strawn was charged with Child Abuse, a third degree felony.  He was transported and booked into the Walton County Department of Corrections.

Strawn has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation.
