WCC Selects Johnson Alumnus of the Year

Dothan, Ala.—Wallace Community College-Wallace Campus in Dothan recently named Vernon L. Johnson as the 2014 Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Johnson, who is the CEO of Dale Medical Center in Ozark, was honored at the Spring 2014 Commencement Exercises held at the Dothan Civic Center.
Mr. Johnson’s road to success is lined with dedication, hard work – and a two-year degree from Wallace Community College. A native of Clio, Mr. Johnson is the son of the late Coach John Johnson and Faye Johnson, both Barbour County educators. After graduating from high school in 1979, he received an associate’s degree from Wallace Community College and worked as a respiratory therapist for over twenty years. He served as Assistant Administrator at Dale Medical Center for six years, and became CEO in 2003.
In addition to advancing this career, Mr. Johnson advanced his education. He obtained a bachelor’s in business administration from Troy State University in Dothan, and a master’s in health administration from The University of Alabama in Birmingham.
The 2014 Alumnus of the Year maintains his relationship with Wallace Community College by serving on the Associate Degree Nursing Advisory Board for the College.
The Wallace Community College Alumnus of the Year Award was established to recognize individuals who have gained distinction through their professional and/or personal accomplishments and who have used their experiences to make a difference in the lives of others.
