While the main threat of severe weather remains Monday night into Tuesday, we wanted to highlight that the Storm Prediction Center has included a portion of the Florida panhandle (west of a Apalachicola to Marianna line) in a marginal risk for today (Sunday). This is a low-end, marginal event.
Location: Florida Panhandle west of a line from Apalachicola to Marianna
Threats: Isolated strong to severe storms possible with damaging wind and a tornado or two
Timing of most likely strong to severe storms: Noon-7pm CT
Attached:
- SPC Day 1 Outlook that highlights the marginal risk
- Timing Graphic - confidence is somewhat low on the overall timing graphic but noon-7pm CT still remains the best timing for strong to severe storms in the marginal risk area
While thunderstorms are possible outside of this marginal risk area, they are not expected to be strong or severe.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible earlier in the day across the west before the strong to severe threat increases. In addition, activity will persist into tonight across the tri-state area, but the threat for strong to severe storms will diminish.
The thinking is still similar is terms of the severe threat for Monday night into Tuesday and the heavy rain threat as was emailed out yesterday, thus that information will be updated later this afternoon. The main change with the severe threat Monday night into Tuesday though is the Storm Prediction Center expanded the slight risk of severe storms eastward for Monday night and it now includes Tallahassee.
