PorktoberQue is more than just an Oktoberfest (think polka music, lederhosen, beer and bratwursts) and a barbecue competition (think about 30 teams smoking meat trying to win thousands of dollars in prizes). It’s a family friendly festival that also features the Ultimate Air Dogs dock diving competition, a car show, live wrestling throughout the weekend, an outside stage with contemporary music, vendors for shopping and eating, free bounce houses for kids, a free Reptile Discovery Program and an air-conditioned area with more food, drinks, vendors and dancing. It’s September 25-26 at the Houston County Farm Center, and admission is just $4 per person with children 6 and under free. Proceeds benefit local youth through several programs and also PorktoberQue helps a dozen other non-profits who participate. You can get in free if you wear lederhosen! Well behaved pets on a leash also welcome.
