MONTGOMERY: The statewide committee of the Alabama Republican Party met on Friday and today to hear challenges to some who have qualified to run as a Republican.
One of those challenges is concerning a District 85 candidate for Alabama State Representative. That candidate is Ron Wilson.
The challenge comes from three or four people. The challenge is based on several fronts, the main challenge comes from Wilson's residency requirement.
Wilson came to Dothan as a Alabama State. Trooper. Since that time he has li ed on Clardy Road. Wilson's residence is outside the boundaries of District 85. In fact Wilson resides in Steve Clouse district represented by Steve Clouse. Wilson is running against a Dexter. Grimsley.
According the the laws of the State of Alabama,a person seeking office as a State Representative sis to live in the district for one year prior to election. Wilson has not met the requirement.
Wilson has some campaign signs which show his address of 4106 Ross Clark Circle which is the Holiday Inn on the north side of Dothan. Wilson owns the motel and convention center and his office is there.
Reports are Wilson shows a address in the district. Reports are he does not live at that address.
The committee has already backed themselves in corners with some of their decisions. Some of those include if you have taken a campaign donation from the Alabama Education Association you can not run as a Republican. That rule will stop a lot of incumbents.
On Friday the committee has stopped several from running as a Republican. It will be interesting to find out the final decisions.
