On Nov. 8, 2014, 15 schools from around the Wiregrass competed in the Wiregrass BEST Robotics competition at the Ozark Civic Center. Wicksburg High School, Rehobeth Middle School and Carroll High School will be advancing to the regional championships in Auburn, Alabama Dec. 5th–7th. The regional championships in Auburn consist of the top 54 teams from 17 BEST hubs in six different states.
Students have 42 days to build a robot, construct an exhibit booth, write an engineering notebook and create a marketing presentation. The competition is open to middle and high school students, and schools participate at no cost. All schools are eligible to participate.
The year’s game was “Bladerunner,” and students were challenged to execute five sets of tasks to assemble and position a wind turbine into a completed state. To do this, students had to design and build a prototype vehicle capable of transporting and maneuvering components of the wind turbines.
