WEC has been hard at work restoring power since 5 a.m. this morning and more members already have their power restored! We want to let everyone know that we have been having major technical difficulties since the storm -- including problems with our Internet and phone service. Phone seem to be working this morning, and we apologize for the inconvenience this caused over the weekend. However, if you'd o have problems contacting us, this is the reason.

We also want to continue to acknowledge the crews from our sister cooperatives that have stayed with us throughout this event and helped us so much. Pea River, Pioneer, Central, South Alabama and Tallapoosa River Electric cooperatives -- we couldn't have done this without you. THANK YOU, from both WEC and our members.

We also want to thank our contractors, Musgrave and Providence. They have helped us clear away trees and and other debris so that line crews can do their job. Thank you!

OUTAGE UPDATE, MONDAY EVENING: As of this moment, WEC has 289 meters without power. We will continue to work into the night to continue bringing these meters back into service. However, more severe weather now moving into the area makes it hard to predict what our working conditions will be like.

While we were able to restore 9,000 in a 30 hour period, things have slowed down. Why?

The way an electrical grid is structured, repairing one line may bring the lights back on for 500 members. We prioritize those repairs so we can help as many people as possible. Now, we have reached the point where a single repair may bring two or three members back on the grid.

Today, we’ve posted photos of some of the destruction we’re dealing with in order just to be able to start replacing a broken pole. It’s time consuming work, but our crews are dedicated, well trained and have been moving as quickly as any line crews possibly could.

We want to say thank you to our sister cooperatives that have sent help to us during this major outage. Right now we have 50 people who left their families behind to come help us restore power to our members more quickly. That means a lot. Cooperatives who have sent crews are Pea River, West Florida, Pioneer, Central, South Alabama and Tallapoosa River electric cooperatives.

Everyone involved here has dug deep and worked hard. We are proud of all our employees, and thankful for those who have come to help. Thank you for your continued patience and well wishes. They are greatly, greatly appreciated.
