Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will be working with employees of Wiregrass Electric Cooperative as well as community volunteers to weatherize a home, located at 1554 Harvey Hicks Road, Ashford, including installing cellulose insulation and caulking around windows and doors on Monday, October 6th.  The volunteers will be gathering at 9:00 a.m. to begin working on the home of Mrs. Sims.

Brad Kimbro, Chief Operating Officer with Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, said “Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is happy to be a longtime supporter of the Wiregrass Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and we are honored to be a part of World Habitat Day.  For many years now, WEC has partnered with the Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity in helping our cooperative’s members become more energy efficient.  Through our partnership, we share a mutual goal of assisting existing home owners weatherize their homes in order to make their homes more energy efficient, saving money on their power bills.  This partnership has been a great success in that through the partnership, most members receiving this weatherization of their homes have enjoyed an average reduction in their power bill of 25%.  Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is a big supporter of Habitat for Humanity and the goal of improving substandard housing in our area.”

Habitat for Humanity International and its partners will take part in the U.N.-designated day, observed every year on the first Monday in October, to advocate for better shelter around the world.  World Habitat Day will also be recognized during Habitat’s 31st annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, held Oct. 5-11 in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas.
