Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is the proud recipient of an ADECA (Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs) grant to provide energy efficiency weatherization to homes for low-income members. The $50,000 grant will be awarded at a meeting on Mon., Jan. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Wiregrass Electric’s Dothan office located at 6167 Fortner St.
We welcome members of the media to join us for this presentation at which will be ADECA members and elected officials. Following the presentation, we will tour at least one of the low-income homes that has been weatherized through our partnership with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity.
The purpose of the grant is to assist qualified homeowners to make improvements to protect their home and its interior from the elements, to reduce energy consumption and to optimize energy efficiency. The homes will be qualified by habitat for Humanity staff, and improvements up to $3,000 may be made per household at no charge to the member.
We have been pleased with our partnership with Habitat for Humanity in assisting members to weatherize their homes. This is just another way in WEC's long history of promoting and providing ways to our members on how to use energy more efficiently.
