OUTAGE UPDATE, SUNDAY NIGHT: Nearly 30 hours ago, our distribution system was hit with a storm that caused hurricane-level destruction. At its worst, the outage caused by this event left 9,500 out of power.
Right now, there are roughly 500 meters yet to have power restored. That’s 9,000 in roughly one day. Our outside crews, dispatchers and other team members have not stopped working since the storms hit, and they have accomplished an amazing feat. We want to say THANK YOU to our team members who have done so much in such a short period of time. We also want to say thank you to our sister cooperatives who have sent crews away from their homes on a Saturday night to help the Wiregrass.
We want to inform everyone that at this time, we have ordered our crews to go home and rest. They have worked so hard, and for so long, that we feel it is absolutely essential that they be allowed to sleep and recover before starting back at daybreak Monday. Working with electricity is a hazardous job, and we believe that being alert and rested will help keep our crews safe as they work to restore these outages tomorrow.
