From WDHN: A woman was booked into the Houston County Jail Tuesday on charges she embezzled money while employed by the Columbia Baptist Association.
Tonya Woodward was booked on 10 counts of theft of property involving funds believed stolen from the association supported by Baptist churches in Houston County. The exact amount alleged stolen is not yet known though a person familiar with the case but not authorized to speak about it said the figure reaches "into the tens of thousands of dollars." Court papers will likely be filed Wednesday morning.
The Association's website does not show Woodward as a member of the staff. However, other internet websites, including ZoomInfo.com shows Woodward served as financial secretary and administrative assistant to the Association's Director of Missions, Dr. Jerry Grandstaff.
When contacted by DothanFirst.com, Grandstaff said he was meeting with attorneys before commenting on the matter.
