And part of that success is helping them to become self-sufficient adults. One way to do that is by teaching them to cook for themselves, instead of relying on fast food which can be loaded with calories and artificial ingredients. Cooking can be fun, a great way to express creativity, and is necessary to sustain life.
The month after next the Academy Sports+Outdoors store will be hosting the 4th annual Kids Que, a cooking competition for children aged 8-18. Held at the Farm Center Saturday September 24 in conjunction with PorktoberQue, there are 50 spots for competitors. The competition is divided up into 2 age groups- 8-12 and 13-18. The entry fee is $10 per child, and for this money each kid receives:
* A portable table top grill that the child can keep after the competition
* 2 steaks to cook for the competition (only one has to be turned in, they can eat the other)
* Charcoal for the day’s grilling
* 2 tickets in to PorktoberQue- one for them and one for a parent
That $10 entry fee gets them $40 worth of goodies, plus the top 5 in each age group receive a trophy. The top two in each age group will also receive an Academy Sports+Outdoors gift card. Why wouldn’t you encourage your child to participate? Forms are available online at http://porktoberque.com/kcbs-competition/academy-sportsoutdoors-kids-que/ or you can call us at 334-699-1475 and we will mail you an entry form out via postal mail.
In the past, we have sold out of spots, because it’s such an amazing deal and great experience for the kids, so don’t delay and send in your form today!
