Early County Commission Chair and District 2 Candidates Face Challange

Jeffrey Haynes' qualifications for Commission District 2 was challanged by a registered voter pursuant to O.C.G.A 21-2-6 (b) for unpaid taxes on June 7, 2012. A qualified elector (registered voter) may challange the qualification of any candidate within two weeks after the deadline for qualifying.It was brought to the attention of members of the non partisan group, Progressive Citizens of Early County, LLC that the candidate for Early County Commission Chair at the time he qualified also had a unpaid tax lien. False swearing on a notice of candidacy is prohibited by statute.The two week deadline for an elector to challange the qualifications of a candidate had elapsed. An appeal to the superintendent of elections, Probate Judge Tonya Holley was delivered June 22, 2012. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-6 (b), the superintendent of elections upon his or her own motion may challenge the qualifications of any candidate at any time prior to the election of such candidate.
