Mr. Richard Earl Jones, 74, of Opelika, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at his home in Opelika. A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, in Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika, Alabama. Reverend Cliff Knight will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service beginning at 12:00 noon at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, Alabama. Mr. Jones was born on August 29, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia, to BE and Lucille White Jones. Mr. Jones graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1959. Mr. Jones served his country in the United States Air Force. He became a master electrician, and later retired from the city of Dothan Electrical Department. Mr. Jones lived most of his life in Columbus, Georgia, Dothan, Alabama, and the past nine years in Opelika. Mr. Jones was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Dothan, Alabama. Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his parents: BE Jones and Lucille Jones; and brothers: Teddie Ray Jones and Perry Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 51 years Dianne Lewis Jones of Opelika; son, Jared (Amy) Jones of Kerrville, Texas; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Simpson of Auburn; grandchildren: Zachary Jones, Christopher Jones, Haley Simpson, Emily Grace Simpson, Ashley Simpson, Amanda (TJ) Sewell, Jennifer Senn, Layn Sewell, Paycee Sewell, Kloee Sewell, Tyler Lee, and Sarah Mason; brother, Jacky (Janie) Jones of Matthew, North Carolina; sister, Lynda Haley of Athens, Georgia; brother-in-law, Glyn (Debra) Lewis of Marietta, Georgia, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
