ASHFORD…Alma Jean Whitaker, a resident of Ashford, died early Sunday evening, August 17, 2014, at the home of her sister. She was 74.


            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, in Pansey, with Pastor Todd Thorpe officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services at the sister’s home in Ashford.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.


            Ms. Whitaker was born and reared in Gordon, daughter of the late Clarence Bailey Whitaker and Lois Lynn Whitaker. She lived in Ashford all of her adult lifetime and was of the Baptist faith.  Ms. Whitaker was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy A. Whitaker.


            Surviving relatives include her sister, Sara Whitaker Carlisle, Ashford; a sister-in-law, Gayle Whitaker, Jacksonville, FL; two nieces, Lori Carlisle and Marchetta Tucker (Tim); two nephews, Jay Whitaker (Gynelle) and Jeff Carlisle (Allison); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
