ABBEVILLE. . .Arthur Moody Lingo, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday afternoon, May 27, 2014, at his home. He was 74.


            Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 29, 2014, in the Old Center United Methodist Church, near Newville, with Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lingo Memorial Fund, c/o Kim Railey, 136 County Road 245, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mr. Lingo was born and reared in Dale County, between the Old Center Community and Bertha, son of the late Fed Perman Lingo and Vassie Lee Chancey Lingo. He lived in the Capps Community, near Abbeville, before moving to Thomas Mill Creek in Henry County in 1993. Mr. Lingo was a member of the Old Center United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed by the City of Abbeville as a policeman. Mr. Lingo was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Cutchen Lingo, a granddaughter, Brandy (Bam Bam) Lingo, two sisters, Jeanelle Lingo and Mavis Kirkland, and two brothers, Molton Toby Lingo and Thomas Lingo.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Teresa Smyth (Matt), and Kim Railey (Chris), all of Abbeville; three sons, Vince Lingo (Nicholynn), Abbeville; Eric Lingo (Sandra), Chattanooga, TN; and Oran Lingo (Debbie), Abbeville; a sister, Bonnie Johnson (Charlie), Abbeville; two brothers, David Lingo (Mable), Panama City, FL; and Gerald Lingo (Janet), Remlap, AL; eleven grandchildren, Kelly, Wesley, Brittany, Dustin, Austin, Ty, Dylan, Angel, Bridget, Seth, and Trenton; four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Hunter, Olivia, and Valeon; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Railey, Chris Money, Matt Smyth, Wesley Welch, Hank Walker, and Grant Hewitt.
