Mr. Benjamin Robert “Bennie” Yancey of Geneva, Alabama passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012.  He was 73.


 


Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, in the Devco Baptist Church with Rev. Olan Strickland, Rev. Ricky Hall and Bob Hill officiating.  Mr. Yancey will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, December 10, from 6 until 8 p.m.


 


Bennie was born May 7, 1939, in Telfair County, Georgia.  He was a very happy person and loved to joke with his friends.  In 1979, he, along with his family moved from Georgia to work with Clinton Mills and was later employed with Reliable.  Bennie was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was a member of Devco Baptist Church.


 


His father, George Leonard Yancey preceded him in death.


 


Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Yancey, Geneva; three daughters: Debbie Morgan (Donald), Samson, Judy Lamb, Geneva, and Janice Coleman (Daniel), Chancellor; mother, Anna Yancey, LaGrange, GA; three siblings: John Yancey (Caryl), Fairview Heights, IL, Dale Reason (Roy), and Jerry Yancey (Elaine), all of LaGrange, GA; nine grandchildren: Christy Hull, Jacob Newman, Brianne Newman, Tabitha Coleman, Janna Burgos, Kali Coleman, Emily Morgan, Aaron Lamb and Brittany Lamb; six great-grandchildren: Jala Porter, Jordan Williams, Javia Marks, Benjamin Newman, Jackson Newman and Gabriel Morgan; special family friend, Dennis Huggins; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.
