Mr. Bennie Frank Helms, Jr. of Geneva, Alabama passed away Monday, July 20, 2015.  He was 74.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Gene Hauser officiating.  Burial will follow in the McDuffie Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Sorrells Funeral and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continue until service time.

Bennie was born September 13, 1940, in Jackson County, Florida to the late Bennie Frank, Sr. and Gladys Morrell Helms.  He worked with the U.S. Postal Service for thirty three years and retired as Postmaster while working in the Chancellor office.  For more than 50 years he was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge having received his 50 year membership pin.  While a member of the lodge he served as a Worshipful Master and was the youngest Mason in the State of Alabama to hold this position.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a lifelong member of Westside United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, a daughter, Beverly Helms, and a sister, Nan Rae Crutchfield, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Helms; one daughter, Elizabeth Helms Fain and husband Donald; two step-sons: Michael McDuffie and wife Nancy, Mark McDuffie and wife Rochelle; seven grandchildren: Morgan and Garrett Creech, Mikayla, Hunter, Brody, Natalie and Mary Kate McDuffie, all of Geneva; one sister, Sue Dowling and husband Danny of Hartford; other extended family and friends.
