Bessie Mae Spann of Slocomb passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at her residence. She was 78.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will follow in New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home of Hartford. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Minnie Posey Moss.

Survivors include her children, Jackie Lee Moss, Johnny Ray Carter, Barbara Pruitt, Judy Wright, James F. Spann, and Joseph Ralph (Betsy) Spann, Jr.; her grandchildren, Jeo Watterson, Tammi Mast, Chris Moss, Trina Moss, Thomas Earl Wright, Aaron Wright, Dalton Spann, and Minnie Spann; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Vassie Rustin; several nieces and nephews.
