BERTHA COMMUNITY . . .Bettie Outlaw Halstead, a resident of the Bertha Community of Dale County, died early Saturday morning, March 1, 2014, at her home. She was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P. M. Monday, March 3, 2014, in the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, near Midland City, with Reverend Jason Miller and Reverend Danny Quincey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from  2:00 until 3:30 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Tommy Baldwin, P.O. Box 113, Ozark, AL 36361, or to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Henry Reynolds, 3945 County Road 40, Newville, AL 36353.


            Mrs. Halstead was born and reared in the Corinth Community of Dale County, daughter of the late William Bentley Outlaw and Florence Lenora Baxley Outlaw. She moved to the Bertha Community in 1975. Mrs. Halstead was a member of the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church and attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, near Abbeville. She retired from WalMart in Ozark in 2011. In earlier years, Mrs. Halstead owned and operated the Echo General Store. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max Bradshaw, Omar Free, and Buford Halstead, two brothers, Fonzie Outlaw and Rudolph Outlaw, three step-children, Judy Halstead Pylate, Ricky Free, and Robin Free.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Teresa Johnson (Daniel), Bertha Community; and Anita Reynolds (Winston), Echo Community; three sons, Larry Bradshaw (Linda), Nashville, TN; Vann Bradshaw (Dawn), Geneva, AL; and William Free, (Karen), Hendersonville, TN; a brother, Dr. Stanley Outlaw (Gloria), Nashville, TN; ten grandchildren, Michael Bradshaw, Marc Bradshaw, Brandi Bradshaw Foster, Clay Hughes, Adam Bush, Jessica Steltenpohl, Brooke Elizondo, Haley Reynolds, Wesley Reynolds, and Jordan Herndon; nine great-grandchildren.
