COLUMBIA. . .Betty McHaney Long, a resident of Columbia, died Thursday morning, March 24, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. She was 83.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 26, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary Headland.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.

            Mrs. Long was a native of Sunflower, Alabama in Washington County, and was reared in Nettlesboro, Alabama, daughter of the late Grady Jackson McHaney and Annie Lee Sellers McHaney. She lived in Ashford before returning to Columbia where she had previously resided. Mrs. Long was a participant in the James Green Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie T. Long, a sister, Earlene Norris, a granddaughter, Stephanie Ratchford, and the father of her children, William Lee Thomas.

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Debra Hunter (Wilson), and Becky Ratchford (Ronnie), all of Columbia; a son, Billy Thomas (Connie), Tickfaw, LA; her step-children, Lamar Long, Larry Long, Maxine Walden, Mike Long, and Mark Long; a sister, Barbara Jean Pearson, Pine Hill, AL; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; a special friend, Nolan Newell.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Mark Long, Scott Hunter,  Ron Ratchford, Greg Jones, Ronnie Ratchford and Wilson Hunter.
