Beverly Billington Howard

Beverly Billington Howard gracefully passed away on Friday, April 26, 2016 in her home at the Terrace at Grove Park surrounded by those she loved. She was 90 years old.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Byrd Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held Friday afternoon at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of Houston County or your favorite charity.

Miss Bee was the epitome of a lady, and treated each person who crossed her path with dignity, love, and kindness. She was fiercely independent, a consummate crossword puzzle solver, lover of books, and skilled tricycle rider.  She was a pistol.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Billington; her sister, Mary Billington of Columbus, KS; and her husband, Lt. Col. Harmon Howard, of Ozark, AL.

Survivors include her son, James S. Howard of Montgomery, AL; her daughters, Katherine H. Whiteley of Mobile, AL and Meredith A. Howard of Oakland Park, FL; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and her beloved Scottish cousins, Anne and John Alexander and their families of Dingwall, Scotland. 

The family would especially like to thank Miss Bee’s wonderful nurses and caregivers at the Terrace, Gentiva Hospice, Dothan Companions and Anointed Touch.  Each person who served her did so with love, compassion, and respect. We are grateful to all of you for your caring touch.
