DOTHAN…Bill G. Hicks, a resident of Dothan, died late Sunday night, January 13, 2013, at his home. He was 85.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 17, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.


            Mr. Hicks was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Otho Theodore Hicks and Willie Mae Brackin Hicks. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Hicks enrolled at Auburn University and later received a degree in Business Administration. He moved to Dothan in 1954, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Hicks retired as co-owner and operator of City Tire Company, Inc. of Dothan. After his retirement, he worked with his wife in the operation of Artistic Designs, Inc. He formerly served as a football official in the Southeast Alabama Football Officials Association.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sue Sullivan Hicks, Dothan; a daughter, Sandra Hicks Engles and husband, Dr. Robert (Bob) Engles, Jr., Montgomery; a son, Stan Hicks and wife, Kathy Hicks, Atlanta; a brother, Charles W. Hicks and wife, Nita Hicks, Lake Martin; and five grandchildren, Ashleigh Hicks, Courtney Hicks, Lindsey Engles, Brooke Engles, and Abbey Engles.
