William "Bill" Edgar Ivey went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 20th, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Haley and Stuart Tullis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.


Bill was born and raised in Dothan, AL where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Dothan High School in 1961 and attended Auburn University. Bill was a devoted member of Honeysuckle Road Congregation where the love for his church family was only surpassed by his love for his own family. Bill was a loving son to his late parents, Howell L. and Beatrice Stevens Ivey. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jordan Speed.


Survivors include his wife Carolyn Cross Ivey; his children, Leslie (Malcolm) Davis, Mary Ivey M.D., Mark (Margaret) Ivey, Lara McKinney, Kadra (Jeff) Speed, and Kristie (Gary) Phillips; his grandchildren, Kileigh & Kegan Speed, Eli, Ivey &Reed Davis, Julie, Dalton &Alex Ivey, Kristin Dunn, Riley & Ellery Smith, and Brandi (Jarrod) Duke; great-grandchildren, Peyton Duke and Kira Dunn; his sister, Carolyn Ivey Hathcock; his mother-in-law, Blondell Cross; his brother-in-law, James L. Cross; several nieces and nephews.


The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Bill's caregiver, Bettye Johnson, for her helpful and loving care given during his final days.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Buzz Brewer, Wayne Grace, Ray Miller, Barry Smith, Stan Smith, and Ray Wiehe.
